About
About
Christian Mitzenmacher’s debut novel centers on an unlikely friendship shaped by displacement, trust, and shifting perspectives. Between everyday closeness and underlying tension, the story follows Tom, a physics doctoral student, and Farid, a teenage refugee from Quetta, whose past remains largely unspoken. As their relationship evolves, questions of loyalty, responsibility, and narrative perspective come into focus.
Rather than resolving these tensions, the novel embraces ambiguity, navigating complex social realities with a tone that remains light, precise, and at times unexpectedly humorous.
In close collaboration with the author, we developed a cover that draws from a specific scene in the book while deliberately withholding clarity. The motif is translated into a reduced and abstracted image that resists immediate recognition, shifting between depiction and interpretation. Bold color and a direct visual language create tension, while the composition avoids offering a fixed reading.
The result is a cover that claims attention without explaining itself — creating presence on the shelf while maintaining the openness and tension at the core of the text.
